Mangosteen
Garcinia Mangostana

Garcinia mangostana, commonly known as mangosteen, is a tropical fruit prized for its sweet, tangy flavor and delicate texture. It has a thick, deep purple rind that encases soft, white, segmented flesh with a juicy, aromatic taste, often described as a mix of peach, lychee, and citrus. Mangosteen is typically consumed fresh but is also used in juices, desserts, and preserves. It is rich in antioxidants, vitamin C, fiber, and xanthones, compounds known for their anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties.
Postharvest, mangosteen is highly perishable and should be stored at 10-13°C with high humidity to prevent dehydration and rind hardening. It is a non-climacteric fruit, meaning it does not continue to ripen after harvest. The thick rind provides some protection, but careful handling is necessary to avoid bruising, which can affect internal quality. Due to its short shelf life, proper storage and timely distribution are crucial to maintaining freshness and flavor for export and consumption.
